The Hyperion, 2026 Release

A unique blend of straight whiskeys from Redwood Empire, bottled unfiltered at 55 percent - 110 proof - as the 2026 Release. The label prints the recipe in full: 32 percent bourbon, 30 percent rye, 25 percent wheat, 13 percent single malt, column-still distillate drawn from California, Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee, bottled by Redwood Empire Distilling in Vallejo, California. Named for the Hyperion coast redwood, the tallest known tree on the planet per the neck label. Steve held the allocation at The Brothers in Ballwin and rang it up at 91 dollars a bottle, with word from the counter that not much reached the area. Poured at a Missouri kitchen table rather than the bar. Smooth for its proof, and gone faster than a 110-proof bottle has any right to be.

Redwood Empire does the rare and honest thing on this one: the blend is printed on the front, not buried. 32 percent bourbon, 30 percent rye, 25 percent wheat, 13 percent single malt, unfiltered, 110 proof. The distillate comes from four states, the bottling is done in Vallejo, California, and the name belongs to a tree - the Hyperion coast redwood, tallest known on the planet per the neck label.
