Fallen Brothers, and a Night of Remembrance in Augusta

Most of the Hound’s Missouri nights happen at a bar in Ballwin. This one was an hour west, in Augusta.

Fallen Brothers Crafted Spirits marked two dates on Friday the 11th: the twenty-fifth anniversary of September 11th, and its own second year. The remembrance came first. The national anthem. A moment of silence. A glass raised for the 343 firefighters who did not come home. Tom Slyman played acoustic into a clear, mild night, the kind September in Missouri rarely bothers to deliver. The house release for the occasion was “343,” third in a 9/11 Commemorative Series, two bottles named for the count.

The room was full and stayed that way, bourbon moving as fast as the bar could pour it. Even three deep at the bar, Kenny stopped to talk. The Hound spent most of the night at a table with the Barrel Room Bourbon Club, the Cottleville crew behind the Missouri Spirit Festival down the road, and came away with names worth keeping.

No bottle came home, which is a failure the Hound intends to correct. Two clean manhattans and a dark walk back across Augusta softened the blame.

The Hyperion, and the Bottle That Went Too Fast

Redwood Empire's Hyperion, the 2026 Release - a blend of straight whiskeys that prints its own recipe: 32 percent bourbon, 30 rye, 25 wheat, 13 single malt, bottled unfiltered at 110 proof. Steve held the allocation at The Brothers, ninety-one dollars a bottle. It did not last the week.
