Forge of Freedom, American Light Whiskey

Poured on

August 20, 2026

Why this is here, not in the Journal

The Hound poured this bottle but did not log a proper tasting note in the moment. The room was busy. The night kept moving. What you see below are the label facts the Hound can verify — nothing else. No secondhand tasting note. No reviewer aggregation. The verdict stays open until the Hound gets a second pour.

From the label

  • American light whiskey, aged 11 years
  • A special release to celebrate America's semiquincentennial — United States 250th anniversary, 1776–2026, July 2026 (per the label)
  • Finished in a 45% wheat bourbon barrel (per the label)
  • Finished in French oak, white ash, and cherry wood (per the label)
  • Producer and proof are on the label but not yet logged — they get added with the second look

Two bottles on the shelf at The Brothers Beer & Bourbon House in Ballwin. An American light whiskey aged 11 years, dressed for the semiquincentennial — 1776 to 2026 on the label — finished in a barrel that once held a 45% wheat bourbon, then on French oak, white ash, and cherry wood. Light whiskey is a category most drinkers have never poured, distilled higher than bourbon allows into used or uncharred oak, and the used wood gives up its influence slowly. The first pour backed that up — it drinks easy, easier than an 11-year special release tends to. That is an early read, not a verdict. The verdict waits for the second pour. Reader notes welcome.
